Estradiol is a naturally occurring female sexual hormone. The preparation is used as hormonal replacement therapy. During the perio of menopause the woman ovay glands start to produce less estrogen resulting in possible menopause symptoms that are eased or even stopped by using oestrogel. If hysterectomy has been performed on the patient then osetrogel can be used alone if not then progestin also must be administered to the patient. The gel is applied to the skin and estradiol is absorbed in to the blood through the skin.
